Shake Shack sprouted from a hot dog cart in New York City, created by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first-ever art installation.

For three summers the cart was quite a success. In 2004, we built a permanent kiosk in the park – our modern day “roadside” burger stand was born! With its majestic setting and striking architecture, our original Shack has set the standard for every new location we’ve opened since.
